AN ENLIGHTENING EXPERIENCE (August 23, 2019)

Watching tourists in Motovun for a couple of hours is enough to figure out that humanity is lost. Coming from all over the world, they are aimless. Clueless. Even more, pointless. The tourist crowds are here only for fun. The most basic sort of fun, too. But this experience is far from useless. Those couple of hours are enough to abandon every hope for the species. As well as to abandon all emotions about its mangled future. Whatever happens in the years ahead is hunky-dory, that is. Even more, perfectly agreeable. Indeed, watching tourists in Motovun for a couple of hours is an enlightening experience.

Addendum (October 8, 2019)

To my delight, quite a few people in Motovun and its environs agree with me late in the tourist season. Although they would not go as far as I do about the human species entire, they do agree about the aimlessness, cluelessness, and pointlessness of the tourists they encounter month after month. And this applies even to those who make their living from services they provide to the crowds from all over the world. Most of them can hardly wait for the end of the season, too. In spite of our differences, they tacitly agree that humanity is lost. Deep down, they get the message, as it were. I do my best not to spell it out in no uncertain terms, but I still take pleasure in our comradery. To wit, entertaining tourists in Motovun for a couple of months is an enlightening experience across the board.
