HUMANS ARE FOR FUN, AGAIN AND AGAIN (July 5, 2019)
As I sit on the hotel terrace and sip my drink in the early afternoon, I cannot but chuckle to myself occasionally as I watch humans pressing around me. In front of me, a bunch of Americans recline in superb sports gear entirely unfitting their overweight bodies. To my right, a bunch of South Koreans are taking pictures of each other over and over again as though there is no tomorrow. And to my left, a bunch of Austrian bicyclists in their late seventies and early eighties are fooling around with the tires of their electric bikes, each of which is worth a mint. “Humans are for fun,” I remind myself with a gracious smile on my face (“Humans are for Fun,” March 14, 2012; and “Humans are for Fun, Again,” September 12, 2013). The hotel terrace is one of the best places in Motovun at this time of the year to enjoy the unending show. Which it undoubtedly is, for humans do their best to display themselves for everyone to see. The show is international to boot, as well. All it takes is a carefully-picked table, a comfortable chair, and a drink that can be relished for a stretch of time. The bliss, as witnessed by the Buddha-like smile on my wilted face.
