As soon as I walk to the lower square up Borgo, I spot a whole bunch of tourists taking pictures of something or other on the pavement of the gate leading down to Gradiziol. Curious, I stroll across the square. When I come closer to the excited crowd, I realize that they are taking pictures of a green praying mantis standing still on a cobblestone. It, too, appears to be confused by the tumult. For the bulk of the tourist visiting Motovun, and especially those from northwestern Europe, this is nature at its wildest. Goodness gracious, a praying mantis wandering free!
