DORIAN AND I (October 8, 2000)
I am siting in a café with Dorian. He is writing into his notebook and I into mine. We are using identical pens, but my notebook is somewhat bigger than his. He tells me he is writing a book about seven families—mothers, fathers, children, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins—that came to America in 1690. He is now working on the second chapter. The book is going well.
