ENTICING (October 1, 2000)
I hate to be reporting on the breakdown of my second marriage from hour to hour, but I must say that I am surprised by Lauren’s words this morning. She seems to be genuinely interested in rebuilding that something that unites us on radically different principles. Perhaps I am deluded once again, but she quite impressed me by her maturity, strength, and intelligence. At least, there now seems to be a glimmer of hope that we will find a way out of each other’s hair without a catastrophic divorce and complete loss of contact. Not only because of the children, a new lease on our marriage would be a wonderful way out of the current impasse. It is so enticing to believe that one fine day we may become able to stop lying to each other and begin exploring a more open marriage with dignity. Indeed, I hope I am not deluded once again.
