IN THE BEST TRADITION OF JOURNALISM (November 18, 2000)

The front cover of the current issue of Time Out announces in the top-right corner the leading themes in art, theater, film, and books sections. “Does the Turner Prize deserve to survive?” is the theme listed under the rubric of art. Smelling blood, I went through the magazine rather eagerly. The only article about the Turner Prize I managed to find is a lengthy one about one of the artists shortlisted this year—the last one in the series of four. However, it has nothing to say about the prize itself. In the best tradition of journalism, the question from the cover seems to be the petulant answer. I only wonder whether this is a gift from the editor-in-chief, Laura Lee Davies, or the old art editor, and the author of our article, Sarah Kent. Come to think of it, maybe they hatched this prank together to show they can still bark but not bite.
