SHOPDROPPING AGAIN (November 25, 2000)
I just dropped off unobserved a batch of my Mark Kostabi postcards in the bookshop of the Serpentine Gallery. I hope they will not toss them away. The last time I left some cards there was a bit less than a year ago, when I dropped off the last batch with the invitation to the Last Art Show. The Serpentine Gallery sold them off happily for fifty pence a card. The only reason why they may take the last postcard out of the rack is that some people may find it offensive. The piece which I originally sent to Kostabi was “Adding, Subtracting” (August 25, 2000), in which I refer to God not only as a jealous bastard, but also as an artist through and through. Ouch!
Addendum (December 3, 2000)
On our way around the park yesterday morning, Lauren and I stopped at the Serpentine to see how my postcards were doing. I had a bunch with me, and I thought of leaving them there if the stock was low. As it turned out, the postcards were gone. They were too much for the Serpentine. A polite taxpayer complained about my language, I bet. Now I have to look for another outlet.
