YET ANOTHER IDEA FOR A SHOW: A LETTER TO THE ART EDITOR OF THE ECONOMIST (November 24, 2000)
So far, you must have received at least a hundred of my postcards about art and the art world in London and beyond. As you will no doubt remember, many of them are critical of the articles on these topics that have appeared in your newspaper. I assume you are responsible for most of them. I would like to propose that you contact the curator of exhibitions that take place in and around the lobby of your building in St. James’s, and that you suggest that The Economist might be interested in exhibiting a selection of my cards, reproduced in color and blown up. Given the size of your art space, I reckon about a dozen postcards would do. As they are already your property, the cost of reproduction would be the only cost you would incur. The benefits would be yours only, too. I believe the show would be received as a witty twist on the subject of art by the wittiest of newspapers. All you need to do is share a selection of my postcards with your valiant curator. Go on, do not hesitate—look up the number, pick up the phone, clear your throat…
