GETTING UP (February 8, 2007)

The toilet bowl in my bathroom faces the mirror above the sink, but I can see only the top of my head while I am sitting down. My job done, however, I see myself as I am getting up. Almost every day, and especially after I take a crap, I make funny faces at myself. More often than not, I am frightening my own image in the mirror. My eyes bulging out, I curl my eyebrows upwards. My lips pulled tight, I flash my teeth. Sometimes I let my hands fly threateningly, too. I am bolstering my morale, I guess. For the horrible creature on the other side of the bathroom is always liable to burst out laughing.
