MOTOVUN - ECO TOWN (March 8, 2007)
A few months after I moved to Motovun, one evening at Klaudio’s I dreamt up a wine club together with several other wine aficionados (“The Motovun Teran Club,” October 8, 2003). The club fell apart before it took off, though. In fact, it fell apart the very next morning. One of the main reasons for the club’s demise was the stark logo I designed for it. It was too stark by half, I guess. A month ago, when I agreed to take over the leadership of Motovun - Eco Town, a fledgling association concerned with sustainable development of the town and its countryside, I remembered the old logo. A simple geometric form based on Motovun’s coat of arms, featuring five towers and the town walls, it now represents the association. Although I expect the association to do many a good thing in the years to come, the logo makes me happy from the very start. And the connection with the ill-fated wine club gives me a real thrill. For is there anything more sustainable in these parts than the production of wine?
