MY BABY CHAIR (June 1, 2007)

When I came to the hotel terrace this afternoon, almost all tables were empty already. Lunch was long over. But next to the table that attracted me most there was a baby chair with a wide plastic tray. The chair was big and sturdy, as one would expect it to be in a hotel. I have seen it never before, though. And this is where I ultimately decided to sit, most likely drawn by the awkward contraption. As I sip my wine, three teddy bears now smile at me. One of them holds a blue balloon. From time to time I anxiously glance at the waiters that chance by my table: one of them is bound to take my baby chair away. Any moment now.
