The human species has lost its way. And how. It is thus tempting to speculate that the only way forward is backwards, so that the right way can be rediscovered at some faithful juncture callously missed many thousands of years ago. But that is only an illusion, as history does not allow for such neat tricks. Although it is most likely that the species will be forced by some calamity to retrace its steps, perhaps by many thousands of years once again, the lessons of history will be lost within a handful of generations. History will thus repeat itself, perhaps many more times, but without any rhyme or reason. The farce is buried deep in the species’ flesh and bones. Indeed, the farce is of its essence.
