Quite unexpectedly, gossip has spread around Motovun. And it is spreading at a clip. One by one, but in close succession, three unlikely couples have brightened the daily routine. Two women in the course of divorce and one married man have found new lovers. Although many children are involved, which is liable to dampen enthusiasm in a proud Catholic community, everyone seems quite delighted by the turn of events. The more unlikely the couple, the merrier. For a few years, it appeared there was nothing worth gossiping about in our sleepy little town. But there is life in it, after all. And it is fair to bet that many more couples-to-be will take courage from the spreading mirth. There will be gossip galore by the end of the steamy summer.
