EVEN IN PARADISE (August 14, 2008)
Day by sweltering day, the hotel terrace is turning into an unpleasant place, or at least a place not nearly as pleasant as it used to be. It is ever more difficult to find a table that is not scorched by the sun. As chestnut trees to the south of the terrace are rapidly shedding leaves due to the excessive heat, which seems to be growing by the day, only the tables to the north of the terrace are still attracting customers. The area in shade is progressively shrinking, and so the people sitting at the neighboring tables are ever closer. Their chatter is ever more intrusive. As the summer is still going strong, I will have to find another place where to spend my afternoons. Alas, there are annoying things even in paradise! Worse, in paradise they seem to be so much more annoying than anywhere else.
