ON THE SLY (September 4, 2008)
The last time I talked with Marijan Vejvoda, and that was a couple of months ago, we had all the time in the world to talk about one of his favorite pursuits: conspirology. He is completely convinced that there are those who run the world on the sly. By the way, in this context he told me that I must read Jacques Attali’s book about the reminder of this century. When it comes to conspiracy, Marijan holds the Frenchman in high regard. Anyhow, at some point I told him how I feel about this subject: there is no doubt in my mind that humans are sufficiently clever to conspire, but they are surely not clever enough to conspire with any degree of success, especially in the long run. “Of course,” he said quietly and looked deep into my eyes, “we are not talking about humans.” Stumped, I just nodded vaguely. When it comes to conspirology, Marijan is no less than a pro.
