THE BROADBAND CONNECTION (March 15, 2008)
Dave Plant called me yesterday evening. “Do you have the connection,” he asked. “Wait,” I answered and dashed to my computer in the study. “Nope,” I reported a minute later. “It went off in the morning,” he continued, “but only for a short while.” “Yup,” I agreed. “By the early afternoon it went out for good,” he added. The trouble is that he has something important to send to London. Without the broadband connection he could never move to Motovun, anyhow. “What now?” I asked. “They told me the main box in Motovun is dead,” he answered, “but they could not tell me when it would be fixed.” More than a whole day later, there is still no connection. Motovun, the vaunted five-star destination!
