THIS PERPLEXING WEEK (August 10, 2008)
Much of this week has remained unreflected because there has been little or no time for reflection. People came and went, events piled up one after another, and impressions swarmed beyond comprehension. It may thus take me years to gather all the memories of my son’s protracted wedding in Motovun into a coherent whole. Or at least a plausible story. Photographs of all sorts will soon start arriving by electronic mail from many of the participants, and the images of relentless merriment will undoubtedly help in this recollection process. But it is likely that it will never be completed to my satisfaction. Annoying blurs and gaping holes will forever mar the collection of memories. Ah, if only I had a couple of hours entirely to myself each and every day of this perplexing week…
