HAIKU, SCHMAIKU (September 13, 2014)
I have neglected my haiku as of late. And the reason is no less than pathetic: I am dashing for the milestone of three-million words next year. Haiku, schmaiku.
Addendum (September 5, 2016)
Now that I am well past the three-million-mark, haiku is neglected no longer, right? Sadly, wrong. Dead wrong, as a matter of fact! One of the statistics that is always in front of my eyes is the average number of words per piece written in a particular year. The last few years, this statistic has been on the way up. This year, the average number of words per piece is close to one-hundred and eighty. An average haiku contains only about thirty words, though. Which is why I tend to neglect my poetry in prose over and over again. Even though I am fully aware of the inanity of my obsession with statistics, there is little if anything I can do about it.
