I FART IN YOUR GENERAL DIRECTION (September 26, 2014)
Browsing through The Guardian, I just chanced upon an article about the ten best quotable films. Although I have lost interest in the movies many years ago, I thought the article could be useful in gauging my disinterest. Still, I assumed I would know all the ten movies by their titles. As it turned out, I was in for a big surprise. The only two movies I have actually seen are “Casablanca” (1942) and “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” (1975). By the way, I am sure that I have quoted the Monty Python’s movie often enough. “I fart in your general direction” struck me as an eminently quotable line, too. Only one movie I have known about but have never seen: “Pulp Fiction” (1994). And I have not even heard of the remaining seven movies: “Airplane!” (1980), “This is Spinal Tap” (1984), “The Princes Bride” (1987), “Withnall and I” (1987), “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure” (1989), “The Big Lebowski” (1998), and “Mean Girls” (2004). Wow! Seven out of ten! Not to beat around the bush, I felt proud of my achievement. The article gave me quite a boost. As far as I am concerned, Monty Python’s line is best directed to all those who engage in movie making. Quotable it surely is. All I would like to add to it is a bursting sound effect.
