ON ROUND NUMBERS (October 2, 2014)
So far, I have written more than one-thousand pieces a year only in four years. As it happens, they come in a row. The first was 2011. That year, the one-thousandth piece was written on November 12. In 2012, it was written on October 2, and it was written on November 30 last year. This year, this is the one-thousandth piece, and it is October 2 once again. The repeated record, as it were. Even though I am of two minds when it comes to such ridiculous records, I am still happy. In the decimal system, which is not exactly to my liking, the number is as round as numbers can get. As ten-thousand pieces of writing per year is a number well beyond my abilities, this is as far as I will ever get with round numbers on a yearly basis. Looking into the future, though, I hope that this is the very last year when I will write as many pieces. In fact, I look forward to the years when I will write a few pieces only and many more addenda. The one-thousandth addendum written any particular year would make me really happy at this stage of my life. As goals go, this is a lofty one, to be sure. And it strikes me as well within my reach.
