SCREW CLIMATE CHANGE (September 25, 2014)
Four days after thousands of events around the world aimed at stopping climate change, and two days after the summit of world leaders aimed at action on climate change at the United Nations, the topic is not in the news any longer. It is passé by now, or so it seems. Right now, the struggle with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria dominates the news. In addition, there is much to read about the economic doldrums that seem intractable six years after the onset of the global financial crisis. This is about it, not to mention loads of crap about women’s rights, gay rights, invalid rights, and the like. Returning to climate change, is this all that can be expected for the time being? Well, chances are that the subject will be all but forgotten until America or Europe get hit by yet another round of weather-related calamities—such as droughts, floods, or devastating storms. What happens in Asia, South America, or Africa is nigh irrelevant, anyhow. And this is all that can be expected for the foreseeable future. Screw climate change, that is. All things considered, it is too boring by half.
