SOME SUMMER (September 13, 2014)
It is still summer, at least officially, but I am already heating my house. It rained all night, and it is murky and windy out there this morning. Overnight, the temperature in the house has fallen to nineteen degrees Celsius. My beloved will come over in a few days, and I must keep the temperature up for her. The weather is amazing, to put it mildly. Some summer. And it is anyone’s guess how it will be in the fall, which is just behind the corner. The heating-oil tank in my basement will need refilling soon, but I will have to wait until the tables in the lower square are cleared so that the cistern carrying oil can turn around there. In the meanwhile, I do not dare use the central heating for fear of running out of oil. Thus I am using an electrical heater to jack up the temperature in the house. Actually, I am using it to keep the temperature from slipping even lower. I can only hope that there will be a little sunshine before my beloved’s arrival so that the stone walls of my house get a bit warmer. And a bit more welcoming. Some summer, indeed.
