THE GOLDEN RULE (September 28, 2014)

This morning I stumbled upon a story about a certain Caius Veiovis, who was just convicted of murder, kidnapping, and witness intimidation in Springfield, Massachusetts. He is the last of three defendants charged with the murder and dismemberment of three men. The murder convictions carry a mandatory sentence of life in prison without possibility of parole. After the verdicts were read, Veiovis yelled at members of the jury as they were led from the courtroom: “I’ll see you all in hell, remember that, every fucking one of you.” What attracted me to the article was a picture of his face. Thirty-four years of age, he has the devil’s number, 666, tattooed on his forehead. On each side of his forehead, he has three horn implants in a symmetrical arrangement. But the first thing that crossed my mind when I saw the picture was the so-called golden rule: “Do unto others as you would have others do unto yourself.” Life imprisonment without parole is simply ridiculous with someone like Veiovis. In his case, the Massachusetts law is wide off the mark. The golden rule requires that he be murdered and dismembered right away. Actually, he should be dismembered before he gets murdered.
