WARMING YOGA (September 26, 2014)

It is cold in my house. When I returned yesterday evening, it was eighteen degrees Celsius. I jacked up the temperature with electric heaters, but I gained no more than half a degree. This morning, it is eighteen degrees once again. Although it is uncomfortable at times, I do not wish to resort to central heating. Not yet. The system provides me with hot water, and that is all I wish from it for the time being. Before it turns really cold, I would like to test my ability to deal with low temperatures by other and simpler means. First of all, I can always wear warmer clothing. When it gets really cold, I can wear a woolen hat and a pair of woolen socks. More to the point, though, I want to see how far I can get with yoga. Can I make myself comfortable by simply sitting and meditating about warmth? This is a practical question, to be sure. I would hope I could warm myself from within, but that remains to be tested in practice. Once the temperature in the house drops below sixteen or seventeen degrees, I will start practicing in earnest. Warming yoga strikes me as a great way forward. With some practice, I could endure even freezing temperatures, like so many yogis of old. Lucky fellows, they never got spoiled by central heating.
